· Exercise at Least 30 Minutes a Day, Aerobically For a long life, the Mayo Clinic advises at least 30 minutes a day of aerobic exercise, like walking, swimming, or participating in an aerobic exercise class. How does it help? Aerobic exercise boosts immunity, strengthens the heart, and keeps the arteries clear - all factors which help prevent disease.

· Learn to Manage Stress, a Link to Major Illness. But learning to manage stress, through meditation and therapy, for example, can help prevent the onset of diseases.

· Spend Time in Prayer. More and more people who attend weekly religious services are living longer lives, disease-free. It may be because they tend to avoid risky behaviors, like smoking, and experience less depression and anxiety, which can lead to major illness. Spending time in prayer or meditation outside of a formal setting also has proven health benefits.

No one wants to live in fear of a major illness. But practicing a daily regimen of the above health measures can substantially aid in preventing serious and chronic diseases - and lead to a longer, more enjoyable life.
